Energy and Commercial Law
Attorney David Engel

About engel I legal

I am David Engel, a lawyer and in-house counsel with many years of experience at the interface between law, business, and energy.
After studying law in Marburg – including a year abroad in Athens – I completed my legal traineeship in Constance on Lake Constance.
Afterwards, I worked in an international commercial law firm in Stuttgart and a leading energy and infrastructure law firm in Munich before joining a global industrial company as in-house counsel.

My main areas of practice are energy law, contract law, and public economic law.
I advise on energy, industrial, and infrastructure projects from structuring and procurement to implementation, including regulatory issues (e.g. electricity tax, network charges, emissions trading, hydrogen regulation) and national and international contract negotiations (PPA, infrastructure, procurement, logistics, joint ventures).
I also represent clients before authorities and in court.

Municipalities and municipal companies I advise in procurement and concession procedures, remunicipalisations, and participation projects with an integrated view of municipal, corporate, and state aid law.

What Sets Me Apart:

  • Industry insight from both private practice and in-house experience.
  • A deep understanding of economic, technical, political, and regulatory contexts.
  • Clear communication, commercial thinking, and practical, results-oriented solutions.
  • Cost-efficient, on-point legal advice through specialisation and lean structures.

Born and raised in East Frisia (Northsea), I now work with companies and municipalities across southern Germany, particularly in Bavaria.
I value the direct, solution-oriented dialogue with people on the ground just as much as the international perspective that comes with large-scale industrial projects.
